COSC 479/592: Assignment 1

In this assignment, you are to develop a web page on some particular topic of your choice. For example, it could be a short autobiography, or about a hobby, or any other topic that you know something about.

It must declare itself to be an XHTML1.1 document, via the DOCTYPE declaration:

        "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
    
```
The DOCTYPE declaration must be exactly as above.

It must be a valid XHTML1.1 document, as determined by the W3C validator. For testing purposes, include the following code in your document, just before the </body> tag:

    <p>
          <a href="http://validator.w3.org/check/referer"><img
             src="http://www.w3.org/Icons/valid-xhtml11"
             alt="Valid XHTML 1.1!" height="31" width="88" /></a>
    </p>

Your page must contain at least one instance of each of the following:
- A comment.
- An h1 header
- A list (ul, ol, or dl)
- A table
- An embedded image (other than the W3C image at the bottom of the page)
- A character entity
- A link to an external site on whatever topic you chose. (Several such links is even better!)

Try to make your page both attractive and informative. Also, make the source as readable as you can. Do not use an HTML generating tool that creates tags for you. The idea behind this assignment is to get familiar with the nuts and bolts of HTML and XHTML.

DUE: Thursday, January 15, in class. That is, you should have your page posted in your www directory on the class server by the beginning of class, and you should turn in hardcopy of the html source in class.
